The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
